Secured Credit Card ApplicationIn this day of cyber theft, the one thing you do not want is your identity stolen. The headaches and quandaries of fixing problems that someone else has created can be time consuming and bothersome. Yet you still need to shop and purchase items online. Some credit companies will ask that you apply for their credit card online so that they can rate you quickly and get your credit card ASAP. Most of these companies use a secured credit card application to do this transaction. A secured credit card application consists of a SSL (Secure Socket Layer) technology that encrypts your information 128 bits to the credit companies. Thus reducing the chance that your information will be stolen or compromised. How Do I Know The Connection Is Secure? When you are applying online you can always tell if you are on a secure connection two ways. One of the more popular methods is by looking at the URL (Universal Resource Locator) located in the title bar. A normal website is http://www.companyname.com a secured credit card application URL should be https://www.companyname.com. Note the “S” for security. Usually a company named Verisign provides this security for most websites. You may see their logo on the page, which is a very good sign that your connection is secure. Another way you can tell if your connection is secure is that if you are using Internet Explorer there is a little golden key or padlock on the bottom right hand side of your browser. That key signifies that the connection is in fact secure. If you double-click on that little icon, it will show you the certificate information and amount of encryption, which is usually 128-bit for the secured credit card application. The certificate shows you who the certificate is made out too as well as when it expires. The information should be relevant than you can finish your form online without hesitation. |
